Sør-Gjæslingan Fishing Village

Sør-Gjæslingan fishing village was the largest fishing village south of Lofoten in it’s hey day, and several thousand fisherman flocked to the area during the main fishing seasons.

The fishing village consists of a group of around 80 islands, islets and skerries in the open sea of Folla approx. 50 km south-west of Rørvik. In October 2010, Sør-Gjæslingan was listed as a cultural heritage site of national importance by the King.

Visit Sør-Gjæslingan

Sør-Gjæslingan is maintained by Kystmuseet Rørvik (The Rørvik Coastal Museum), and is available to visit in the summer via public express boat or as part of the guided tour “A unique journey through the history of seafood”. It is also possible to stay overnight in authethic rorbus, also known as Norwegian fishermen’s cabins.
