Hiking on Jøa island: Dunafjellet and Ramnfjellet

The hike up Dunafjellet (265 masl) and onwards to Ramnfjellet (240 masl) is a gem of a hike on a well-marked path. The hike starts with a steep ascent but is relatively flat as you approach the top of Dunafjellet. You will use a-1,5 hours return from the parking to Dunafjellet, approx. 3 km return walk.

If you want to continue towards Ramnfjellet you follow the trail westwards from Dunagjellet, down towards Grønlihalsen. From Grønlihalsen there is once again some ascent. Stunning views in all directions along the entire trail between the mountains. You can choose to walk down from Ramnfjellet and end the hike at Brakstad. Steep descent, but there are chains to aid walking on the steepest parts of the trail. Approx. 3 km from the start to Ramnfjellet, approx. 4 km in total if you end the hike at Brakstad. 2-3 hours from the parking, over the mountains and down to Brakstad.

Directions:

From Namsos drive Fv 769 westward towards Salsnes, then turn onto Fv 777 towards Ølhammeren ferry harbour after approx. 25 km. Catch the ferry over to Seierstad on Jøa island, then follow the paved road towards Dun. Follow paved road approx. 600 meters past Dun, park by the signposted parking area. Cross the road on foot and start your hike by the signposted trail.
